LOYD VAN HORN

Marketing Director/Web Deeloper

Raised in a radio family, Loyd Van Horn has been an avid AM and FM DXer for nearly 30 years.  He began DXing shortwave at the age of 7, but it wasn't until he heard 1120 KMOX - St. Louis, MO on his bedside clock radio at the age of 13 that the DX bug bit him hard. 

 

After college, he spent the better part of the next decade in media including stints at 680-WRGC - Sylva, NC where he served as mid-day on-air personality and news director.  While an on-air personality, he earned a 39.6 share in Jackson County, NC in the Fall 2003 Arbitron ratings. He also worked for Clear Channel-Asheville in their six-station cluster as an account executive and assistant programming director.

Loyd was a feature writer for Monitoring Times magazine and served as columnist of the monthly GlobalNet column - focused on streaming radio and television - until the magazine ceased operations.

​

He is a member of the National Radio Club and the International Radio Club of America.  

 

He is an extra-class amateur radio operator (W4LVH), trained severe storm spotter, and loves combining his love of radio with his love of being camping and riding in his in Jeep LJ Wrangler.

He is also a musician, having released three albums:  Daydreams From a Modern Life, Suddenly and Escape.  All of his albums are available on Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube, iHeartRadio, Amazon and Google Play (among other streaming services).  Escape is also available on his Web site:  www.loydvanhorn.com

 

He resides in Mandeville, Louisiana with his wife, Megan, and their dog, Willow.
